Independence Plus is not just a staffing or equipment agency. Our niche is that we serve people with complex medical and respiratory needs – and we keep them out of the hospital by providing many “extras” that go beyond the standard fare. The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge took the nation by storm last summer when Pete Frates and Pat Quinn launched the now-famous challenge to raise money for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). As a home healthcare organization with many ALS patients, it’s important to us that we’re part of the solution.

Lauren, age 19, has accomplished a great deal in her life—she graduated from high school, sings in the choir, and even received a scholarship and was accepted to college. Now, she’s adding “life coach” to her list of accomplishments.

Fulfilling a Dream: Leading and Teaching by Example
Erica, BSN, RN, has worked at Independence Plus for less than one year—and is on the fast track! She started as a field nurse working with some of our most complex pediatric and adult patients. Now, she’s working as a nurse educator and transitioning our new ventilator-dependent patients from the hospital to home.

Debra, RN, spends quite a bit of her time—inside and outside of the office—brainstorming ideas about how to make documentation relevant and engaging. Quality Assurance Manager for Independence Plus, Debra can be overheard saying, “If it wasn’t documented, it didn’t happen.”
A Blessing at 25 Weeks
When Kayla was six and half months pregnant, she was diagnosed with preeclampsia. A few days later, KJ was born premature at 25 weeks. After almost a year and half in the hospital, KJ finally came home in May. To the delight of his parents, KJ is happier than ever and growing rapidly.
Paul’s Make-A-Wish Trip to Disney

Shania and two of our other nurses recently traveled with Paul and his family to help Paul experience Disney World through the Make-A-Wish Foundation®.
