Erica, BSN, RN, has worked at Independence Plus for less than one year—and is on the fast track! She started as a field nurse working with some of our most complex pediatric and adult patients. Now, she’s working as a nurse educator and transitioning our new ventilator-dependent patients from the hospital to home.
When Kayla was six and half months pregnant, she was diagnosed with preeclampsia. A few days later, KJ was born premature at 25 weeks. After almost a year and half in the hospital, KJ finally came home in May. To the delight of his parents, KJ is happier than ever and growing rapidly.

Shania and two of our other nurses recently traveled with Paul and his family to help Paul experience Disney World through the Make-A-Wish Foundation®. Isobel, age 4, and Alexis, age 2, also known as the “Super Schissler Sisters,” have captured the hearts of their community through word of mouth and their new blog. The girls are joyful, silly, love to learn and play, and communicate with sign language. Their local community and church recently came together to host a benefit on their behalf—and the outcome was far beyond what this family ever expected!
