Someone You Should Know: Shannon L., IPI Healthcare Recruiter

Independence Plus, Inc. (IPI) holds a unique niche in the home health care field. Providing extremely challenging care for our adult and pediatric patients is what we do best. Nurses hired at IPI are immersed in a hands-on training and education program designed to prepare them to provide the best possible care for patients with complex medical and respiratory needs living at home. IPI is always searching for great RNs and LPNs who want to join our team, and at the forefront of that effort is our new Healthcare Recruiter, Shannon.  Although she has only been on the job for a few days, Shannon has hit the ground running and will soon be attending career fairs, hosting college information sessions, and networking to help bring IPI the VERY best nurses who want to learn ICU skills while working in the home, allowing our patients to live at home with the services they need.

Q: Tell us a little about your background and what brought you to IPI.

A: I recently graduated from Elmhurst College this May with my degree in Psychology and Business Administration. Before working at IPI I was working at an accounting firm.

Q: What made you want to be a healthcare recruiter?

A: I was looking for a position as a recruiter, as I enjoy the hiring and selection process and other tasks involved. I was specifically interested in the Healthcare Recruiter position because I loved that I would be recruiting nursing candidates for a role that is so important in patient’s lives.

Q: What does your job entail and what you are looking forward to most in your new role?

A: I’ll be heading the recruiting effort to screen and hire nurses to grow our staff. I am looking forward to meeting our patients and finding them the very best people to care for them.

Q: Who inspires you?

A: Definitely my mother! What an incredible woman. She is such a happy soul and is so strong, independent, funny, and loves so unconditionally. I am so lucky to have her as a role model and inspiration. She truly has made me into the woman I am today.

Q: What are you most proud of?

A: I’m so proud of my family and husband, they’re amazing!  An accomplishment I’m proud of is my recent college graduation. I worked full-time to be able to put myself through school and it was really rewarding to achieve my goal all by myself.

Q: What words do you live by?

A: “Be watchful, stand firm in faith, be brave, be strong. Let all that you do be done with love.” – Corinthians 16:13-4

Q: What is the one thing about yourself that you think people would be surprised to know?

A: I think people would be surprised to know that I am a bit of a daredevil. I love skydiving, white water rafting, zip lining, cliff jumping, and scuba diving. I just received my PADI Open Water Diver certification and will be working toward getting my Rescue Diver cert!
