Someone You Should Know: Beth Bruns, RD, LDN, IPI’s Transition Care Specialist

At Independence Plus, Inc. (IPI), we are committed to our mission of providing exemplary care and services for people at home with complex medical and respiratory needs. As we continue to grow our company and expand our coverage area we are always looking for professionals who share our passion and patient-first mentality. As the newest member of our sales team, Transition Care Specialist Beth Bruns, RD, LDN, is all of that and much more. “Bringing Beth on board was a game-changer for our practice,” said Danilo Coité MD, IPI’s CEO. “Her professionalism and ability to get things done have really been impressive and we are thrilled to have her as part of our team.” We sat down with Beth recently to discuss what brought her to IPI, what she is enjoying most about her new role, and where she gets her inspiration.

Q: Tell us a little about your background and what brought you to IPI.
A: I am a registered dietitian and mom to five awesome kids. I’ve always enjoyed the medical field and science. Medical sales is a way I’m able to blend my personal interest, clinical background, and sales experience to benefit patients.

Q: What does your job entail and what you are enjoying most about your new role?
A: My job entails educating physicians and other clinicians about our services and products, including our comprehensive respiratory management program. Our respiratory management program is led by licensed respiratory therapists who provide clinical follow-up in patients’ homes. At Independence Plus we are committed to keeping our patients healthy at home. The best part of my job is meeting patients in person so I always take the opportunity to meet new patients in the hospital. It is very fulfilling to get to know who we are helping with our products and services. I think it is beneficial to the patient and their family to have met a representative from IPI before going home. I always provide my business card and printed information if they are interested. I have had the opportunity to meet patients in their doctor’s office as well. Doctors have asked me to bring in equipment such as the Astral and AffloVest® and patients appreciate being able to see the equipment before it is delivered to their home for set-up. (Ed. Note: For more information about the Astral and AffloVest® call 708.366.4500 and ask for Beth.)

Q: What was your first impression of IPI?
A:  A friend suggested I consider talking to Independence Plus because she knew they were expanding. I was immediately impressed by the professionalism of all who I met with IPI and the clinical support provided to patients. It’s very exciting to be able to support the entire continuum of care – being able to meet all the needs of a patient whether it is nursing care, medical equipment, or in-home physical therapy.

Q: Who inspires you?
A: My parents inspire me to be the best version of myself. They have been best friends for 54 years.

Q: What words do you live by?
A: There is solution to everything.

Q: What is the one thing about yourself that you think people would be surprised to know?
A: Most are surprised to learn I have five children including a set of twins. I am very proud of the loving, caring young people they are.

Q: If you were given an opportunity to volunteer, what cause would you support?
A: If I had more free time I would volunteer more for Misericordia, a home that beautifully cares for over 600 individuals with developmental disabilities.
